2007 Futurity Season

I forgot to log in on my web site, and post my results on out of area races that I flew in 2008 & 2009... we won some prizes in the different races I was in , but no over all firsts,

2009

Troy & Maya Bred 4th 250 miles on the 350 mile race the same bird  placed 3rd 2 seconds behind the winner at the one loft Race in Ada Ok  Called the winners cup, http://www.winnerscupusa.com/

This prestigious one loft race with the absolutely best birds in the USA competing in it.    2009 in our CCC combine Fut.    I clocked a sister for 4th at 365 miles. I was also 5th,  Just a great Breeding  producing top racing young birds

2009 Eastern Classic

34 Lofts did not report

Joey Perrello clocks wtcm 5303 bred by Walsh loft for 3rd position

This same bird clocked for Joey on the WTCM race, I will have to check but I believe the bird was 13th.

7th East Meadow Futurity Auction (EMF) Futurity 2007 Long Island NY  raced on  10-01-07 d my bird was clocked 7th position at Manny Parade’s Long Island loft, another tuff New York race happen on  this weekend with many birds lost,  I get lucky once in a while and get a prize.

Well the facts of the world trade center race in New York 350 miles and over which happen Saturday September 29th 2007. one of  my  birds that was bred for Bill& Mike loft from NJ,  won tenth position, This major New York Metropolitan race clocked  only 12 day birds, can you imagine  the world trade center  race, with only 12 day birds. Participating in this race  there was  over 161 lofts over 1600 on the birds, first paid 50 grand  150th pays 1 grand,  Billy clocked  the same bird WWTC 5532 on the 200 mile race for a equal first place club and a sixth CJC concourse with 222 lofts and 3188 birds  and the bird is a son of Connor

BAM One Loft Race  10-14-07 my bird took 3rd Position two seconds behind the winner, He was on the drop with the and another race  to be flown at  250 miles on 10-27-07

Friday, 10-07-07 one of the birds I bred was 3rd in the GSO race series,  l the gso is a series of races the jersey ,and Bronx flyers compete in , they pay 1250 dollars which entitles them to fly five different races on 5 different weekend at different distances,  they are allowed to send only seven birds each, from the way I under stand, in a previous race one of the birds I bred  placed 2nd and another bird  as 12th , ,  these races are against the best lofts in the NJ/NY area.

I feel the best birds and flyers are in the New York area, if you can win there, u can win any where, they are the best of the best, birds that win in New York, & should eat up a race where only mediocre birds fly.

The, Suffolk-Nassau Futurity (SNF) - in long island new York 10-07-07 2nd & 11 SNF Futurity. 07 Long Island NY, it turned out to be a tuff race again,, I sent three birds to there fifty dollar bands auction, u pay a entry fee and then the birds get auction to the handlers in NY, so this makes a big pot of capital cash, I ended up placing 2nd and 11th in two different lofts, all three of my birds were still there when shipping and made the race. As you know this is a feat in itself to have one bird make the race never mind all 3, I say this because all the young bird losses out there have left many empty perches.

The ESPO 350 happened on Monday 10-01-07 the Espo race  or Espo challenge, http://www.esposeastcoastchallenge.com/ its 1 grand a bird to enter and 200 perch fee , I was in the money  on the 200,250 and 300, now again in the $$the 350  I had two birds in the money on this 350,  they had 22 birds on the drop which I am in aw of, but this is the way it went , then he had a drop of 8 birds one of my birds was in that 2nd drop, but was the last bird to run in, so he ended up 30th I know it sounds lousy 30 but he could have been 23 just the same,  and the next bird for me  clock at 35 position,

I am having a hard time to believe some of the birds that came on the 300 late the week before long after the first birds’ clock or the next day ended up on the drop of the 22 birds, I guess we all learn something every day.  I would be wrong as the birds must of flown them self into shape.   since they pay all that entry fees the birds go each week no matter there condition or placement on last race,  there are a few other guys in there whose birds flew  shity but ended on the drop ahead of me, in this last 350,  Pigeon races are sure hard to figure,  some of the biggest  names  in the sport are participating  in this Espo race and  , I am right there in the thick of it, my birds did not get lost and did not fail, as a matter of fact some one who was there when they seen my bird who came in the 35th position said the bird looked as fresh as can be, remember 35 position is not far off the pace when they had a drop of 22 and another drop of 8 this bird was in the third drop ,  I  will  win 9th ,one of the  average speed prizes,  there is ten average speed positions in this race the entry was 1000 plus 200 perch per bird. Well any way to make a long story short, both of my both birds flew and clock each week in there series of races ESPO had.

“In order to win a prize for Average Speed (otherwise known as “Champ Bird – Point System” each bird has to have clocked on the actual race day for all 4 races. However, in the event that none of the birds that are eligible for Average Speed prizes going into the 4th race clock on the day of the 4th race, we will use the results of the first 3 races to determine the winners of the Average Speed prizes. If only one eligible bird clocks on the day of the 4th race then that one bird will win the entire Average Speed prize (combined amount for all 10 slots). Average speed is figured on clocking position and not on time in the air or flying time

I believe in the simple principle of genetics.  HEREDITY IS HANDED DOWN FROM ONE GENERATION TO THE NEXT.  LIKES BREED LIKES.  Intelligence, compass, homing instinct, navigation skills, determination, courage and heart are inherited from the birds pedigree or Ancestors' Blood

Walsh loft wins Annual Pine Tree Derby!

1st & 4th Pine Tree Fut. 2006

9-17-06  I received a call  from Jim Peck , that my birds have  also won the Pine tree futurity in Maine ,   the race was reported to me as  a hard race,  I was FIRST, and 4th , I only sent two birds to the Maine Pine Tree Derby  Race , also this same weekend I clocked in the prize money in the big Detroit Classic race 2006,  the birds were  flying 387 miles

It  looks like I got lucky in another futurity Race 10-2-06 that I sent a few young birds too, , this time in Long Island  NY I was 3rd & 11th,  & 21 in the  EMF Futurity. our bird was  a minute and a half  out of winning and 20 seconds out of second place, the birds were sent in , and then get put up for auction , these were bought by Manny Parada,  you heard the song if they can make it in New York they can make it any where, and its real true in pigeon flying,

I clocked in the prize money in the big Detroit  Classic race 2006 ,  the birds were  flying 387 miles

My friend in New Jersey , John Glemser who has some  of my birds for the big  futurity races there in New Jersey 2006,  he was ,  1,3,5,6,  at 150 miles, with my birds taking these positions. the week before he was second with one of my birds

2006 GNCC CONCOURSE OLD BIRDS

FIRST OVERALL AVERAGE SPEED 2006

Our race 2006 reports are on not on file, I have plans on listing them here as soon as time becomes available.

My first old bird season 2006 here on the southeast Coast of North Carolina met with moderate success when compared to my past performance with the birds.  With everything taken in to consideration I am quite pleased with my old bird team of nothing but yearlings and them flying against larger teams and many older birds with considerably more experience.  You also have to realize that I started concourse racing with twenty-nine birds and sent every one of them to the races week after week.  They came banging in time after time and demonstrating their great form, with the widowhood cocks strutting and cooing to their mates as they immediately trapped.  Just watching them it was hard to believe they had flown the distances that they had.

Every week this team was competing against odds of members shipping fifty birds as that is the Concourse limit.  There were some members that, like myself, believed in sending quality instead of quantity which has always been my practice.  I was beaten in two races by a total of 1/2 second in one race and five seconds in the other.  The birds did their thing and in one of these races at 200 miles I got greedy and tried to get all five through the traps instead of concentrating on the first one to hit the landing board.  That cost me the win losing by 1/2 a second, but I still had second through six in the concourse. I won the 300 taking 1, 2, 3, 4, & 5. On the first 400 I was 4,7,8,9 the second 400 I was 1,2,5,& 6 here is the races below,

These fellows down here have a unique way of assigning points in the races which will cost me the ‘Champion Loft’ and Champion Bird’.  They give the winning bird a total of one hundred points (100) with ninety- nine going to the second place bird and this going on succeeding order until the one hundredth bird gets one point.  They also allow clocking all day the day of the race and continue clocking the second day until clocks are ‘bumped’ late in the day the second day.  This results in loft with good homers obtaining more points than the true racers. I am assured of the winning ‘club and Concourse average speed’ award as this ridiculous point system cannot affect that.   I have told everyone here that next year I will also have the necessary birds to ship the limit and what ever it takes to be competitive for all the concourse awards.  I will adjust to and feel sure I can distinguish myself and my birds as I have always done in the past.  I actually find flying here in the south less demanding that flying back home in PA.  Most of the land here is flat with no mountains to cross and the ocean creates a natural barrier to the over fly's we sometimes experienced up north.

I am enjoying flying birds here and know that it will only get better as I mold my knowledge to fit into the way they fly birds in NC.  There is more to our sport than just winning and making a name for oneself.  Our birds are to be enjoyed and no one enjoys winning more than I do but at the same time I want to win on a level playing field and one in which I have no advantage other than possibly my superior birds and my knowledge and experience.  With this being said I hope this concourse does put in effect a smaller shipping limit to give the average guy a chance. Most flyers do not have the birds or experience I had to over come people shipping twice as many birds as me.

All is well here in the southeast of our wonderful country and the sport is alive and well.  I hope to do better next year and will be working with my young birds to insure a competitive flock of old birds for next year.

In the past my loft has flown with the Lackawanna-Luzerne Combine I did fly a few old bird races 2004 and won 2 combine races before leavening in May for a visit to our home in NC. 2003 we bought a house in Sunset Beach NC in the summer of 2003,   soon after we bought we started on our new loft. I have joined the ACC club here in NC September 2004. We flew a few young birds’ races in 2005. I have never done this before but here in NC we flew young birds from the North and then few old birds from the south. I had Great success flying my small team of old birds 2006.    I have serve as the LLC Combine Race Secretary and have held that position for years before my move south. For the International Federation (I.F) I server as the 1st Vice President. I hope you enjoy my Website; I have tried to make it simple, yet interesting and easy to move around in. I have tried to keep it from being too commercial, If you have any suggestions or comments on our Website, don’t hesitate to let us know.  I will be pleased to put you on top of the race sheet. Also a few choice young birds bred from imports off the best of STAFF VAN REET & LUC

 Vermeerbergen

Read below for my loft's race history these last few years  in Pennsylvania,

My club is the Scranton Club in Pennsylvania, were I have been a member since 1979.  Pigeon racing is my hobby, my passion, I fly to win, and each, and every race I compete in. The thing to remember is! This is at a new loft, We moved here to a new home June 16 1997, the day after the last old bird race was flown at my old loft in the city of Scranton. There I won LLC combine average speed for the 97 old bird series, before I moved to set up the new loft. I started over and never missed a beat. How many can say that they did that. At the old loft I won many races and average speeds. Every one said I was done winning because I moved off of the line of flight. The people who lived out here had and still have a hard time winning. I have WON way more then my share of races at this new loft. You can check interview in 1996 for a loft history and interview 2001 for a current history. I have all so included some of my methods to give ideas to you all, you have to be on your toes and thinking all the time in this game or you will be left behind. This story by Ad Schaerlaeckens from Europe will have you thinking just click on his name. This article is one reason that I did not go into strains now please take the time to read it   I have made many friends in this wonderful sport and have enjoyed all the pigeon sport has given to me.  I am not a breeding station but a skilled champion flyer, what we have to offer is what I am flying now and winning with now. .  there is two hundred pages on this site, so if you see a hyper link click it you can always make your way back

2004 Futurity Season

October 17 South Jersey Auction Futurity , First  IF-04- SOJ-0344 flown by  The TEAM of AVERSA/GARGON/GLEMSER/WETZEL

The SMCC race in Detroit was Sat. Sept. 18th 2004 with a strong N/NE wind (headwind). Warren Sessink clocked my bird first to his loft taking 19th position overall taking a $1000 capital prize and high pools for both Warren and myself.  His loft was the 4th loft in the race over all. My friend Don Goodwin was 3rd overall in this SMCC race also which was 1 minute behind the winning bird. His bird is bred out of a pair of yearlings he bought from me last year. Don's bird flew in the loft of Ken Howard which was the winning loft of this big race in Detroit.

Also on Sept 25th 2004 in the ( EMF) East Meadow Long Island Auction Futurity which was a 300 plus mile race my bird scored  7th position which was flown by  Mark Nieradko .

October 2nd Snf Auction Futurity I place 20th flying in the loft of Ralph Leggo and 23rd flying in the loft of Jim Peterson

October 17th NSBR Futurity 17th & 18th Flown by Manny  Parada Long Island NY

2003 Futurity Season

Like most pigeon flyers. I only send a few birds to out of area futurities. It is quite an accomplishment to have any survive until race day. Winning money is icing on the cake! Here is a brief breakdown of my luck this season.

East Meadow Auction Futurity - Sept. 30th - I won 4th and 30th in this 323 mile Long Island race.

Club Race - Sept. 30th - I took 1st and 2nd in this 334 mile last club race.

SNF Auction Futurity - Oct. 4th - I clocked in the money.

Scranton Futurity - Oct. 5th - I won 2nd place in this 334 mile race.

Lou McElroy Futurity - Oct. 18th - I took 4th place in this Greater North Carolina Concourse $50 per band race with Sal DiFazio of Waterway Loft handling my bird.

NSBR - Oct. 18th - I took 3rd and 7th place in this Long Island race with Circle Loft and Manny Parade each handling birds for me. Over 900 bands were sold for this race and it paid out to 50 positions. Circle loft had two birds on the drop with two more right behind them. That’s very good racing.

I.F. Convention  Race - Nov. 7,2003- I placed two birds in the $$$ in 32nd position and 66th place in this CONVENTION RACE   for   Young Birds

Some other wins include: 16th and 17th in the Biddeford Maine Futurity, placed in the top 20 in the Motor City Futurity 400 mile race, won two prizes in two different lofts in the Detroit Classic 350 mile race.

As you can see, I had a good run in 2003. I won money in most of the futurities my birds flew and did well in the club and combine races here in PA. I’m glad the races are over though, it’s getting too cold. Maybe I’ll have to go back to NC soon to warm up for next year.

Good Luck.

Paul.

Young Bird Racing 2002 has been terrific. I have been winning many races and enjoying the sport. I have a  fantastic bird  # 215 this year who has won 3 club races and has 1-SECOND club position. This bird just jumps in the trap first as he has been on the drop with other birds on all his wins Including First combine 333 miles,  I guess he just wants to be recognized. 215  FAMILY are  my #14 and my 7585. This bird has been on the drop with 5 other birds 3 times and manages to jump in first.

The Futurities are now starting and some of the birds I sent are starting to show. I only enter a few birds in each of  these races.   scroll down to have a view at a few of the races I entered.

Gus  the new addition to Walsh loft is bred of pure German origin of West German lines only . The parents are dual registered. Both were both imported from Germany by the breeder. As Gus grows I will make a new page for him.
